Miss Jamaica is Crowned Miss World 2019 –Setting an Historic Record

Black Beauty Magic is here to stay! The crowning of Toni-Ann Singh, from Jamaica has closed out this year’s pageant tour making it the first time in history that the titles for Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, Miss Universe, and now Miss World are all held by Black women.

Since these pageants began, the representation of women competing has always failed to reflect the diverse array of women who make up the world’s population. Beauty pageants typically do not include women who have different hairstyles, larger body types or dark skin tones. And of course, in the U.S. beauty pageants excluded women of color for many many years. Ms. Singh, like her fellow 2019 title holders, used her platform to address and challenge conventional beauty standards.

After her win, the 23-year-old psychology and women’s studies graduate of Florida State University, Tweeted, “Please know that you are worthy and capable of achieving your dreams. This crown is not mine but yours. You have a PURPOSE .

The world can no longer underestimate that special black girl magic that Black women bring to the world of beauty.

Congratulations QUEENS: Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Miss America Nia Franklin, Miss USA Cheslie KrystMiss Teen USA 2019 Kaliegh Garris, and Miss Toni-Ann Singh!
