Hair Guide

Creating a healthy hair regimen begins with understanding your hair. We’ve put together this Hair Guide to help you better understand your hair type, the porosity level and the volume of your hair. Each of these factors are key to understanding what regimens and products works well and what doesn’t work for your hair, which will better assist you with your healthy hair goals.

Hair Types

Your hair type refers to the amount of curl and thickness in an individual hair strand in its natural state. The classification of each hair texture is divided into four main groups (1, 2, 3, and 4), with each group further divided into three subcategories (a, b, and c) which indicates the amount of curl to the individual hair strand. As such, the numbers describe the shape of your curls, while the letters below describe the width or diameter of the curls themselves with “a” being widest, “b” as medium, and “c” as the tightest curl.

And sisters, we are tired of seeing Type 4C Hair always at the bottom of the Hair Type System. Type 4C Hair is always listed at the top throughout our site, so select your hair type below and find information on hair care and products best suited for your particular hair type.
