The strands of type 4b hair are defined as coily hair that is either thick and fine, or wiry and coarse and has coils that are densely packed. This hair type has a “z” shape pattern with a fluffy, cottony look. The curl pattern is tighter and much less defined, having the circumference of an ink-pen.
Because the hair strands have this “z” shape pattern type 4B hair is highly susceptible to dryness and breakage. Also, type 4B hair can shrink up to 70%; the texture is fragile because it has the fewest cuticle layers protecting it from dryness. The top hair concerns with type 4 hair are avoiding tangles, maintaining moisture, and fighting off shrinkage.
