Tips for Adding Volume to Fine Hair
When it comes to the density or volume of a person’s hair, this refers to the amount of hair on a person’s head. Everyone has either a thick, medium or a thin/fine head of hair. For those sisters with a fine head of hair, it can sometimes be a struggle because when fine hair is wet it tends to dry like a wet blanket and close to the head which means those curls look flat or lifeless. Below are some tips to help you to add more volume to your hair.
Use Rollers:
Roller sets and flexi rod sets are a great way to add volume to your hairstyle. The look of this style creates volume by eliminating scalp space, therefore giving your hair a more voluminous look. If you like the twist out look instead just set your hair with rollers in addition to twisting it. The result will be more body and volume to hair.
Use a Pick:
Using a pick is an easy way to add volume to your hair. Those with tighter, coiler curl patterns, typically 4a, 4b or 4c can benefit more from this technique than those hair types in the 3’s, but both hair types can benefit from using a pick. If you have tighter curls or coils, pick your hair starting from the root and pull gently and carefully up towards the ends a few inches to loosen up the curls. For those with looser curl patterns, use the pick by putting it close to the ends and pushing the strands up towards the roots a few inches; repeat this process in different sections throughout your head.
Use a Diffuser:
Air drying may give your curls some definition, but a diffuser can give your hair the bouncy volume fine hair can sometimes be lacking. To get an extra boost flip your head upside down and diffuse it.
Use Light Oils:
The products that you put in your hair are also important to creating a fuller head. Use oils that are lightweight, for example coconut, argan or jojoba oils. These types of oils feel light on your fine strands and won’t weigh your strands down.
Use Volumizing Products:
Let’s be clear, “volumizing products” won’t actually increase the volume of your hair by making the strands of your hair wider, but there are some volumizing products that will add a lot of body to your hair. SheaMoisture’s Dragon’s Blood & Coffee Cherry Volume & Lifting Spray works well to add hold and stiffness to the roots so that the curls won’t lay flat on the head.
