Which Oils Are Best for 3C Hair?

Type 3C hair, sometimes called “curly-coily” hair  is very dense giving way to natural volume.  Because frizzness tends to be an issue you have to use light weight products to give your hair a nice hold. The following oils work best for Type 3C hair:

  • Jojoba Oil This oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc. The qualities of jojoba oil closely resemble your scalp’s natural sebum which makes it ideal for scalp messages. Because it strengthens hair, it is also thought that jojoba oil can prevent hair loss and promote hair thickness.  The best quality jojoba oil to purchase is the unrefined brand which is a golden color.
  • Sweet Almond Oil Sweet Almond Oil is lightweight and does not weigh down fine strands.  It can serve as an extra boost in your conditioner.  Add a few drops to your favorite conditioner. This oil is known to promote hair growth because it contains vitamins including B1 and B6.  It also contains vitamin E which is an antioxidant and is also known to impact hair growth by repairing hair follicles and keeping them healthy and free of inflammation.
  • Coconut Oil Don’t sleep on coconut oil ladies! It’s an oil that benefits many types of hair and actually moisturizes your hair, unlike other oils. The chemical structure of coconut oil allows it to penetrate your strands which strengthens and moisturizes the hair from within.  It is recommended to purchase an organic coconut oil brand which works the best.
  • Olive Oil Everyone has some type of olive oil in their pantry.  Look for extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) as this type of olive oil has little processing or refinement done to it so it retains a lot of its nutrients. Oil olive is also good for dry scalps as it nourishes it and helps ease the itchiness when massaged into the scalp.
  • Argan Oil This oil is rich in vitamins and minerals and is considered an age-old beauty secret to help hydrate and soften hair. It’s full of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E which naturally help to increase the hair’s elasticity. If you want to make your hair softer and more manageable, this is a great choice in oils.

Remember that the oils serve as a sealant to whatever moisturizer you put on your hair.  In other words, the oils help to seal in moisture that you add to your hair in the form of water or water-based products such as a leave-in conditioner.
